Prop Firm EA, Bots and Copy Trading Rules

Prop Firm EA, Bots and Copy Trading Rules differ more than most traders expect, and the differences sit in support articles rather than headline pricing. This page compares what two firms state on official pages read on 2026-10-28 and marks every other firm as not read instead of guessing.

Why automation rules need a separate check

A rule that allows expert advisors may still limit the account size, the speed or the number of copied accounts. A bot that passes an evaluation on one product can break a rule on the next. The rules also change by account size and stage, so a single yes or no does not describe a firm.

FundedNext: size-dependent EA rule

FundedNext's Stellar 2-Step article states that expert advisors and custom indicators are allowed on account sizes below 50,000 when their settings match the account's parameters. On account sizes of 50,000 and above, EA use is not permitted, traders must trade manually, and the EA and VPS add-ons are disabled for purchase. Copy trading is allowed between challenge accounts owned by the same trader. It is strictly prohibited between accounts owned by different individuals, and it is prohibited when it involves funded accounts. The article also lists latency exploitation and platform manipulation as prohibited, and sets a Quick Strike limit: the share of profit from trades closed within 30 seconds must stay below 30%.

The Trading Pit: copy trading and speed

The Futures Prime rules article allows copying trades, manually or automatically, across up to five of your own challenges or five of your own funded accounts. Copying from other traders or sources is prohibited, and running the same strategy on more than five accounts can lead to upgrades being denied. High-frequency trading is prohibited on all accounts. The article describes it as multiple trades per second, dozens of trades within a minute, rapid-fire entries and exits, or any attempt to exploit latency or feed delays. Hedging is also prohibited, including opposite positions across accounts or in correlated instruments. Gap, grid and martingale styles are listed as prohibited.

Topstep and the other firms

Topstep's Combine page lists an FAQ on automated strategies and its payout page lists an FAQ on copy trading during a payout, but the answers were not expanded when the pages were read. FTMO, The5ers, Apex and Alpha Capital were read for other topics, and their automation terms were not captured. Do not infer a yes from silence. Ask support and keep the written reply.

How to audit a bot against these rules

List the bot's behaviors: average holding time, trades per minute, hedged positions, grid or martingale logic and the number of accounts it will run. Compare each with the firm's article for the exact account size. A scalper with sub-30-second holds meets FundedNext's Quick Strike limit as a profit share, not a trade count, so measure it. See the page on scalping strategies for the related limits.

VPS, IP and device rules

FundedNext recommends one consistent device and a unique IP address and allows a VPN or VPS with a dedicated IP. The Trading Pit says an IP that changes every few days is fine, but several changes within the same day can raise suspicion of account sharing. Running a bot from a hosted server is usually fine only when the address is stable, so confirm it before deploying.

Decision checklist

Confirm for your exact plan: whether automation is allowed at your size, whether copy trading is allowed and across how many accounts, which speed limits apply, and whether the rules differ in the funded stage. Keep the article date. Rules around news also affect bots, as covered in the page on news trading restrictions.

Mistakes traders make with automation rules

Three mistakes recur. The first is buying a large account size for a bot and learning later that the size excludes expert advisors. The second is copying a funded account to a friend or a second trader, which the articles read treat as prohibited. The third is treating a stop-loss as optional on a bot. The Trading Pit says stops are not mandatory but that the risk team may require them when most trades have none. Each mistake is avoidable by reading the article for the exact size and stage before checkout, and by keeping a dated copy of what it said.

Keeping a record

Save the article text and its date when you buy, together with any reply from support about your bot. If a rule changes later, that record shows what applied at purchase. Rule history is covered in the guide on why version history matters, and a bot that runs unattended deserves a check at every rule change, not only at signup.

No. It is prohibited on all accounts, including multiple trades per second, dozens of trades within a minute and any attempt to exploit latency or feed delays.
